The forklift is an important piece of equipment in most companies which operate distribution centers, warehouses, industrial and storage handling plants. This wonder machinery, the lift truck is made of various components, including the important carriage, the power source, the engine and the wheels. Forklifts normally have different kinds of attachments also. The following are some of the most important parts of a forklift.
Lift Truck Engine - At the rear of the equipment, the lift truck has its power source. The different types of engine on the forklift will require varying power sources. Like for example, a lift truck with an IC engine could have any of the following as its power source: diesel, gasoline, LP gas or CNG gas. Electric motor lift trucks receive their power from fuel cells or a battery.
Frame of The Truck - The frame of the truck is the base of the lift truck and the most important of all the lift truck parts. This forms the core of the equipment. All other lift truck parts are connected to the base, like for example the counterweight, overhead guard, mast, wheels and axles. Hydraulic fluid and fuel tanks could also be part of the frame assembly.
Counterweight Forklift Parts - While lifting heavy cargo, the counterweight allows the equipment to be balanced. This particular component is cast iron and comes attached to the back of the lift truck. The counterbalance balances the frame of the truck to prevent it from tipping over when a load is being carried or lifted on the front. The heavy lead-acid battery in an electric lift truck offers balance and may function as part of the counterweight.
The Cab Area - The cab is also known as the operator compartment. Lift trucks would sometimes have closed cabs whilst others will be open to the air. There are really lots of parts situated within the cab for operating the forks. The cab has such important parts as the steering wheel, operator controls, seats, pedals, levers and switches. The dashboard contains operator readouts.
